STEPHEN BOWERS: Jamais Vu

Published by: Lauraine Diggins Fine Art | 8-Nov-2016

Lauraine Diggins Fine Art presents JAMAIS VU - an exhibition of work by internationally recognised ceramicist Stephen Bowers. Based on the opposite of Deja Vu, Bowers explores the feeling that one has never seen before something that should be quite familiar and this notion of missing the known, the should-be-familiar or the obvious, is an appealing aspect of his richly ornate ceramics. The highlight of the exhibition is the remarkable Camouflage Series dining setting comprising entree, dinner and serving plates which feature parrots against a complex background of shapes, exploring the idea of pattern-in-nature and nature-in-pattern. Segments of botanical designs, often derived from William Morris wallpaper, are symbolic of the colour and beauty of the natural world and its appropriation into the human environment. Stephen's work draws on classical ceramic heritage and Australian imagery, tinged with his particular sense of humour and wit. View the exhibition on-line at www.diggins.com.au

Eden Lennox - Party Animals

Published by: Stanley Street Gallery | 3-Nov-2016

An exhibition of contemporary jewellery combining precious metals and post-consumables; parts of vintage dolls, toys and found objects; a body of work that takes as its starting points the reuse and "upcycling" ethos of arte povera and the do-it-yourself aesthetic of post-punk. "The notion of preciousness is the key consideration of my practice. I examine it in terms of how preciousness is shaped by an individual's cultural and territorial identity, and how an individual's relationship to a culture and space is expressed within the realm of objects and the contemporary consumer marketplace".
