Akil Ahamat wins the 2018 John Fries Award

Sydney artist Akil Ahamat has been awarded the annual $10,000 John Fries Award for emerging artists by the Copyright Agency at the opening of the award exhibition at UNSW Galleries. The judges also highly commend Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel from South Australia for her work Kapi Wankanya.

"Suspension, a history of abstract hanging sculpture (1918-2018)" at Palais d'Iena, Paris

Entitled "Suspension, a history of abstract hanging sculpture (1918-2018)", an exceptional museum exhibition will open in Paris during the FIAC in the 1500 square meters of the Palais d'Iena from 16 to 26 October. Curated by Matthieu Poirier, in collaboration with Olivier Malingue Gallery, London (which also open a complementary exhibition in London), this museum-size exhibition is likely to be one of the main focus of the FIAC, with more than 42 historical works of art showcased within the architectural building of Auguste Perret, used here as hanging structure for the sculptures.

Melbourne artist Josh The Cat has been honing his unique craft of indie electro-pop across the globe since the release of his first official single Let's Start' in 2015. The anamorphic moniker of producer and singer/songwriter Joshua Teicher, Josh The Cat spent five years cutting his teeth at venues and studios throughout the cultural epicentre and musical oasis of Berlin, before returning to his hometown of Melbourne to release his debut EP Happiness late last year. 2018 has been a year of bar-raising in the music industry, and in classic Darebin Music Feast style, expectations will be met and surpassed with the diversity, engagement and celebration contained in the 2018 festival program.
