Ceramics by Robyn Lees
For ceramic artist, Robyn Lees, the “Tea Lady” is a recurring motif; rich in metaphor and history, Lees never tires of its potential story telling possibilities. The Tea Lady is the personification of domestic ritual and servitude contemplating the woman’s function and referencing her emotional complexity in bright, audacious, voluptuous form. Each lady begins life on the wheel, the clay yielding through the distortion and assemblage process, to take on an individuality that may be contemptuous, flirtatious or frivolous but always functional.
Yoland Barker is greatly influenced by her surrounding environment in the south west of WA, she absorbs inspiration from the incredible colours and shapes, people and music found all around her.
An intense sense of creation is instilled in Yoland. Beginning with a blank canvas and no preconceived visual imagery her work culminates in unique pieces of colour and patterning. Her works tell a story of life, its warmth, its inhabitants and its intensity. Together these two artists celebrate their experiences through vibrant colour, pattern and form
