WANDERLUST noun [ U ] /ˈwɒn.də.lʌst/ was born out of a response to pandemic fueled travel restrictions

Visiting far away places without restriction was something that twenty-first century travelers took for granted. In March 2020, that all changed as much of the world was thrust into lockdown. The luxury of travel is now something people dream or reminisce about. A Brisbane based artist, Kerri Gear can attest first hand that Covid-19 has had a big impact of the tourism industry, as her family's tourism business was affected by the sudden reduction of travelers. Wanderlust means "the wish to travel far away and to many different places". Kerri has created an exhibition of places to carry you away to another world.

Kerri Gear paints magical pictures that immediately soothe the senses with bright rich colours. Her themes transport the viewer to worlds that are carefree, protected and safe. There is a patternlike order and yet a playfulness in the designs of each piece. There is a feeling of travel with streets and trainlines and roads and countryside. Kerri loves the feeling the title evokes, and offers this free ticket to visually travel anywhere through her series in this exhibition.

For the past 5 years Kerri have been rediscovering art as her first love and developing her own stylistic approach to art making, underpinned by a passion for colour and pattern. Her heightened awareness during the current circumstances has revealed a somewhat prophetic vision in her recent work where human existence is only indicated by the presence of their places of habitation.

As a frequent traveler and part owner of a travel company, Kerri is experiencing a process of loss and grief within herself and the industry as she watches events unfold around the world. Restrictions on her ability to move around freely requires an attitude of social responsibility before individual rights. Kerri's work emphasizes the beauty and joy around us.

This is Kerri's first solo exhibition, and she joyfully explains that after a few years of procrastination, she is finally putting herself out there in the art world. Redcliffe Peninsula is a place that many people come to visit for a brief weekend escape from the busy workweek. Now there is another reason to come and let the current lack of travel be replaced by a gallery visit that transports the senses on a wonderful journey.
