With the buzz of excitement aplenty, Perth’s premier Art Prize is set to be the best yet with the biggest prize pool on offer, more entrants and a burgeoning sense of pride within the WA community for a national event created and showcased right here in WA.
For the 8th year running, the Black Swan Prize has grown in stature and prominence and has become part of the artistic psyche of Perth, as well as making its mark nationally. This year’s finalists include works from talented artists from Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia.
The public can expect an extraordinary exhibition of some of the finest pieces of art ranging from well-known faces to fascinating self-portraits, through to artworks depicting elements of Perth’s heritage.
The public is also invited to participate in the popular People’s Choice Prize, with the opportunity to win a $200 gift voucher from the Fig Café. The votes will determine the $7,500 winner for Portraiture and the $2,000 winner for Heritage.
For those artists whose work just missed out on selection, the Black Swan Prize in conjunction with The Fig Cafes, will host a ‘Salon des Refuses’ exhibition at each premises featuring the submitted artwork from talented local artists in the 2014 Black Swan Prize.
The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture and Heritage will open on 9th October to 19th October 2014.
The Salon des Refuse exhibition runs until October 19th, 2014 at The Wild, Pickled and Naked Fig Cafes and is another exhibition of amazing artwork not to be missed!
The Black Swan Prize would not be possible without the generosity of our major sponsors including: City of Perth, Lester Group, Heritage Perth, Etihad Airways, Atlas Iron, MLV Real Estate, Arts Brookfield, Linton & Kay, International Art Services, Squire Patton Boggs, InfraTech, Mondoluce and HU Kendall & Co.
