Urbanscape - Photography Exhibition
'Urbanscape 1' by Jason Smith 2019
In the series Urbanscape, an ongoing exploration of Melbourne's Urban Industrial and Commercial Landscape is taking place. Urbanscape invites the viewer into the dramatic world of colour and geometry to engage the visual senses.

Amidst the dirty, grungy and banal surrounds of these man-made landscapes a fantastical show of vibrant colours, bold shapes and striking lines dance, compete and align in a choreographed theatrical production.

In this ongoing series, I have discovered beauty and harmony in the most unlikely of locations. Images of seemingly mundane building facades and urban spaces come to life through composition, abstraction and brilliant light, showcasing the richness of colour and geometry.

A diverse range of photographers and artists have been influential in my work, from Piet Mondrian to Ellsworth Kelly to Jeffrey Smart to Lewis Baltz.

“If you take a moment to contemplate urban industrial and commercial locations, you may tend to think of bustling, grungy, noxious and polluted landscapes……... I think Fine Art” – Jason Smith Artist/Photographer

"The work demonstrates camera artistry, conceptual rigour, sophisticated compositional skills and a care for the alignment of materials and subject matter...... Jason’s work is thematically consistent and visually coherent. It is thoughtful and thought provoking"- Patrick Pound Artist
