Unley Museum Wins MAGNA Award For Innovative Exhibition
Unley Museum has won the MAGNA Award for Best Permanent Exhibition recognising its new exhibition, Unley: 200 Years of Change. It is the only South Australia museum or gallery to be acknowledged at this year's Museums & Galleries National Awards.
Unley Museum has won the MAGNA Award for Best Permanent Exhibition recognising its new exhibition, Unley: 200 Years of Change.
The MAGNA Awards (Museums & Galleries National Awards) are Museum Australia's annual awards to recognise achievements within the museum and arts sector nationally.
Unley Museum Curator Karen Paris said the Unley Museum was acknowledged for the innovative way in which the exhibition explores Unley's history by telling specific and personal stories of the local community through greater themes such as the history of home entertainment and technology, and advances in urban transport.
"The exhibition enables visitors to discover the people and events that shaped the growth of Unley over the past two centuries. Objects, photographs and other interactive elements trace the change in Unley from the original inhabitants, the Kaurna people, right through to the Unley we know and love today," Ms Paris said.
"These awards are highly competitive with judging panels made up of nationally recognised leaders in the sector so we are absolutely thrilled to have walked away with this award."
This is a significant milestone for the Unley Museum, which competed against museums and galleries nationally. It is the only South Australian gallery or museum to take out an award in any category this year.
The Unley: 200 Years of Change exhibition offers visitors an enriched learning experience through its use of interactive elements like games, touchable objects, and interaction with social media.
