One of John Patrick Shanley's most lauded plays, 'Danny and The Deep Blue Sea' delves into the lives of two battered, volatile outcasts who meet in a run-down bar in the Bronx. Striking up a disturbing conversation they battle their pasts and each other. In the end they must decide whether they dare to lower their defences and risk truly being seen, or instead stay trapped in their separate destructive spirals. One thing's for sure... nothing will ever be the same.

Running from the 4th to the 23rd of June and directed and performed by Charlie Cousins (Arms and the Man - STC, The Doctor Blake Mysteries - ABC) and Laura Maitland (The Lonesome West - Kin Collective, Yes, Prime Minister), this subversive, minimalistic season promises audiences a unique theatrical experience.

Drawing on the approach of renowned director and teacher Mike Alfreds, this bare bones production offers a truly immersive experience, where players and audience make an unspoken agreement to see where the journey takes them each performance.

"So much theatre nowadays has become head-based and results driven.", explains director and performer Charlie Cousins.

"Everything is choreographed, controlled, and locked into place to be repeated night after night. I've become disillusioned with this way of working and for the last couple of years have been working with Mike Alfreds, who has spent his life (through his theatre company Shared Experience) rehearsing plays in such a way that they can be truly fresh and alive each night. His approach is to immerse the actors so thoroughly in the world of the play that they'll have the complete confidence and ability to play with freedom and spontaneity at every performance, living in the moment in a continuous creative flow. Every moment of this show will be free to go where it feels to. Think of it like improvised jazz. We know our scales and the standard tune intimately. But one night it might be in the key of C with a 3/4 time, the next it might be in the key of A with a backbeat you just can't quit."

From the award-winning playwright whose previous works include 'Doubt', 'Moonstruck', and 'Outside Mullingar', 'Danny and the Deep Blue Sea' is a furious, raw, and darkly comic portrait of two broken people fumbling in the dark towards the light.

Not to be missed, this unique season of 'Danny and The Deep Blue Sea' promises to challenge and engage by combining a much lauded script with skilfully improvised, minimalistic theatre.
