Details of the two new workshops are as follows: Fundamentals of Painting Intensive 3 day workshop Students will gain confidence in a variety of painting techniques in Oil or Acrylic, learn colour mixing for best results and its expressive use; understand the importance of tone and apply it to your work; and some creative thinking techniques applicable to abstract and realist painting styles. We revisit the basics of tone, colour and painting techniques (one each day) in a flexible format using a variety of class-based projects designed to keep you interested while building on your skills and inspiring you creatively. You will develop observational and analytical techniques, be introduced to a range of historical and contemporary artists, and explore materials, using still life, figurative and landscape subjects.
Particularly aimed at beginners or those who haven’t wielded a paint brush in ages, there’s also room for mentoring students with more experience who may have missed the fundamentals in their training so far or who feel the need to revisit. Students who attend this workshop may also enroll in weekly classes in Semester one at a discounted rate of $100 off the full term rate (day class) or $50 (evening class). 10am-4pm daily;Cost: $350 (includes morning and afternoon teas each day) Creativity and Abstraction 2 day workshop Using observation of real objects, your tutor will walk you through a number of exercises, thinking methods, tools and imagination games to develop your ability to make interesting abstract work, move your realistic paintings away from the predictable, or improve composition and subject ideas.
Tuition is structured to ensure fast learning and early success and stimulate creativity and generate ideas for ongoing work. Suitable for those wishing to break out of their current painting rut, move from realism to abstraction, or who simply wish to explore abstraction and their creativity. Cost $250 Participants (Non Participant Partners welcome $30) includes tuition Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm daily; studio visit and glass of wine, farewell drinks Sunday, morning and afternoon teas. All other accommodation, transport and meals at own cost. Bring your own portable easel and painting materials About your tutor, Gabrielle Jones Gabrielle graduated from Australia’s National Art School with Distinction, and has held seven solo shows at some of the top galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and at the Goulburn Regional Gallery.
She has had artist residencies at Bundanon, Tahiti and recently, in Mojacar Spain. A selected artist in numerous prestigious art prizes and curated shows, Gabrielle is also an experienced Painting and Art History teacher.
