"Treasured Tiles: Alhambra, Granada", 2013
Emma Hack has been exhibiting professionally since 2002, having held in excess of 20 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Australia. Emma has shown at ART Sydney (2008, 2009 and 2010) and ART Melbourne (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), and internationally, at the London Art Fair (2011, 2012) and the Affordable Art Fair, New York (2011, 2012). Emma’s art practice and exhibitions have been widely documented in both the Australian and international press, and in particular, her participation in local and overseas art fairs has been featured on various television programs. In 2011, Emma’s work was highlighted on Australia’s ABC TV’s “Art Nation” program. 2012 was an exceptionally busy year for Emma Hack, with large commissions both here, in Australia, and overseas, in addition to several solo exhibitions, participation in numerous international art fairs, and securing representation in Singapore! In particular, Emma Hack's recent commission for the Motor Accident Commission of South Australia in collaboration with thecreative team at Clemenger BDO Adelaide, and photographed by Jacqui Way, has captured the attention of national and world press, having been viewed in excess of 220,000 times on YouTube! In a campaign that sets out to change drivers' attitudes to low level speeding by exposing the community problem that sits at the heart of it,a simulated car crash was comprised of painted models by Emma and her team.
The shoot took a total of 18 hours, using 17 men and women - each with up to five layers of paint applied to their bodies. An extraordinary feat for our talented Emma! Emma also managed to produce a total of 5 new series last year: “Mirrored Whispers”, “Diffusion Line”, “Re-releases”, “POP!”, and the “Blue & White” series. Internationally in 2012, Emma has almost covered the globe - her exhibition with Rebecca Hossack Gallery in New York was warmly received and very successful; and her participation in art fairs in Stockholm, Mexico, Toronto, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Singapore has availed this energetic artist, considerable global appreciation of her artwork. For 2013, Emma’s schedule is no less demanding and we are delighted to showcase the first release of her latest series, “Treasured Tiles”. Inspired by her recent travels throughout Spain and Portugal and featuring the bright, repetitive designs of these countries, from the facades of Moorish Castles, to the plaza's, shop-fronts and humble lodgings of some locals, these new works present the truly masterful technique that is Emma Hack.
