Artists Joyce Hinterding, Laith McGregor, Cameron Robbins, Sandra Selig, Kylie Stillman and Gosia Wlodarczak, will shape the medium in unexpected and illuminating ways, presenting 40 new and recent artworks.

Pencil and ink drawings by artist and machine will feature amongst hand sewn drawings, along with a mesmerizing thread installation that spans across walls, intricately carved books, and sound producing induction drawings.

“It is how these artists manipulate and reinvent these humble materials into highly imaginative works that is astounding, and we hope visitors to the exhibition walk away inspired,” said curator Penny Teale.

Visitors will be invited to decode a 12 metre interactive instruction drawing by Gosia Wlodarczak, and will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the internationally recognised artist at an Artist Talk on Saturday 23 February, 3.30 pm.

“Drawing is the basis of my whole practice, extending towards performance, interactive situations, installation, sound and film; I refer to it as cross-disciplinary drawing,” said artist Gosia Wlodarczak.

The ongoing monthly Wednesday Workshops series takes inspiration from Trace, with Brush Lettering led by designer and illustrator Casey Schuurman on Wednesday 5 December, 7.00 pm. The January workshop invites participants to leisurely sift through old books and magazines to form a unique creation at Collage with Minna Gilligan, on Wednesday 30 January, 7.00 pm. For needle and thread artistic fun Kylie Stillman’s Paper Sewing workshop will keep hands busy on Wednesday 20 February, 7.00 pm, as participants create hand-made gift cards.

Kids aged 7 -12 years will be able to join illustrator Kat Chadwick to draw and bring their very own Bandicoot to life at the Draw A Fuzzy Friend kids’ art workshop on Wednesday 16 January, 10.30 am.

Join the Trace: Curator Walk & Talk with exhibition curator Penny Teale to discuss the ins and outs of contemporary drawing on Saturday 2 February, 3.30 pm
