In the final Met Concert for 2016, The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) led by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams will leave the audience enthused and ecstatic in a concert filled with the inspiration of its composers. Mendelssohn was inspired by Shakespeare, Kats-Chernin was inspired by Mozart and Beethoven inspired the world.

Written for William Shakespeare's play, Mendelssohn's evocative A Midsummer Night's Dream Overture was composed at the tender age of 17. A work filled with twists and turns, ebbs and flows, it ends as it begins with the sound of a gentle breeze blowing through the trees. In the Ornamental Air for Basset Clarinet for Orchestra, Kats-Chernin sets out to accent the flexibility and colours of this unusual instrument, while giving it a natural home in the context of the orchestra. The wide range of the basset clarinet is accentuated during this virtuosic work. TMO's principal clarinet Andrew Doyle is the soloist with a brand new instrument built for this very performance.

"Andrew has performed as soloist several times for TMO and it is with immense pleasure that we welcome him back to the front of the orchestra. The brand new basset clarinet has been created just for this evening and we have no doubt that Andrew's sensitive playing and precise style will highlight the enormous range of this truly wonderful instrument," said Sarah-Grace Williams, chief conductor and artistic director with TMO.

Met Concert 5 and TMO's eighth performance season will reach its inspiring climax with Beethoven's magnificent Symphony no 7. Many lovers of classical music consider the second movement of this fabulous work to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. The joyful, energetic and celebratory symphony driven by dance rhythms will complete a magical evening, and magical season from The Metropolitan Orchestra.
