Theatresports Grand Final 2015 - all but two finalists confirmed!

BY Sirmai Arts Marketing | 10-Nov-2015
In the 30th anniversary year of Theatresports in Australia, after a record 30 teams played in the heats, we are now in the final knock-out roundsof the prestigious Cranston Cup! The best 18 teams are currently battling it out for impro comedy immortality over 3 Sundays at the Factory Theatre for the chance to play in the biggest Grand Final in Australian theatre!
The first two semis have already yielded four finalists: ‘Ridgey-Didge’,‘Morpheme Addiction’, ‘The Old Spice Girls’ and ‘Simple Simon & the PaddyKates’. Great pics attached!

Summers can span decades, winters can last a lifetime, but the struggle for possession of the biggest, gaudiest cup in the known world. It stretches from the south and inner west, where teams of impro comedians breed plots, lusts and intrigues, and to the savage eastern suburbs, where armies of latte-drinking ad-libbers prepare to take on the frozen north shore. The kings and queens of Theatresports – history’s greatest comedy improvisers – face off against the young lords and ladies of ad-lib… all of them must play the ‘Game of Games.’

Former Cranston Cup champs Jon Williams and Bridie Connell (aka The Old Spice Girls!) have teamed up again after conquering the USA at the recent LA Improv Festival. Add to that the best of the new stars from the Giant Dwarf Improv Shows: Will Erimya, Pat Magee, Simon Greiner and Kate Coates, plus tons of new players from Sydney’s bourgeoning impro scene, and you’ve got elimination after elimination until we get to the FINAL 6 TEAMS at the Enmore Theatre Grand Final on Saturday, November 28.

Four teams have already qualified for the Grand final: Ridgey-Didge (all recent WAAPA graduates Jane Watt, Adam Sollis & Liam Maguire) Morpheme Addiction (Maddie Parker, Jim Fishwick & Robert Boddington), The Old Spice Girls (Bridie Connell, Steve Lynch & Jon Williams) and Simple Simon and the PaddyKates (Simon Greiner, Pat Magee & Kate Coates).

Hosted by season director Cale Bain and Jane Simmons and game-show themed (with more than a hint of Game of Thrones!), this promises to be a fitting climax to the funniest, most epic and bloodthirsty season of Theatresports ever!
