The length, direction and organization of each brushstroke, the gradation and contrast of his palette is presented with obscure logic. In such a free-spirited genre, Zeng presents the sanity of chaos.

I was amazed, seeing Zeng Fanzhi's exhibition at Hauser&Wirth Hong Kong space.

The exhibition is held simultaneously at three spaces of Hauser&Wirth around the world "“ London, Zurich and Hong Kong. All show a different collection as well as perspective of Zeng. Hong Kong space focuses on his more recent and experimental works. The three showrooms there display three further-classified collections "“ Zeng's comparative study of the works of Cezanne and Zhao Gan, works referred to by him over the course of exhibition, and his experiment with composition and color, which struck me the most.

They are abstract paintings with strong prominence of colors. Zeng's colors and lines are brilliant. Moreover, his brushstrokes are extraordinary, which, in my view, make him stand out among his peers.

Abstract paintings tend to be crazy. Paint is splashed onto the canvas, forming a limitless, rule-breaking symphony of passion. But Zeng's works are different. Every color, every brushstroke seems to have been carefully planned. The length, direction and organization of each brushstroke, the gradation and contrast of his palette is presented with obscure logic. In such a free-spirited genre, Zeng presents the sanity of chaos.
