Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria (GSOV) present a vibrant reimagining of Gilbert and Sullivan's best loved operetta, The Mikado, including an intriguing insight into the creative minds of the theatrical duo, on the eve of their greatest triumph. Inspired by the English public's curiosity for Japanese culture and the 1885 Japanese Village Exhibition in Knightsbridge, London, the composers finished their musical masterpiece, a topsy-turvy satire of British society. With a respectful nod to Japanese culture, GSOV's production is full of mischief and mayhem and some of Gilbert and Sullivan's best music and lyrics. The Mikado runs from July 19 to 22 at Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre, st George's Rd, Preston.
