The Burning at The Old Fire Station

An art exhibition about fire in nature is coming to the Redcliffe Peninsula in January, 2021. How appropriate for Alice McLaughlin to seek the sanctuary of the iconic art gallery - The Old Fire Station Gallery to showcase her colourful paintings and her sculptures. Alice hails from Childers, and as she discussed her exhibition recently, she said she could smell smoke from not far away.

Alice was born in Springsure, Queensland, the third child of a family of nine children. She began painting at an early age. She studied oil painting with a course supplied by the Perth Technical college WA, and later attended short courses at Armidale and McGregor Universities. She has attended many Summer Schools and workshops with renowned tutors.

She took up clay sculpture as a means of taking her artwork into three dimensions and now works with clay, concrete and other mediums of sculpture.

She has also worked in silk painting, mosaics and mural painting but finds her favourite medium to be pastels and oils.

Her work can be found in private collections around the world and she has also created many murals in towns throughout Queensland.

At present she leads a group of artists in Apple Tree Creek for Childers Arts Council which has about fifty members. She also conducts workshops in different mediums.

She has won many regional art prizes and has held a number of solo and joint exhibitions.
