After two days of performances by some of Australia's most talented emerging vocalists, Sydney Eisteddfod is proud to announce the 8 finalists for the 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship.

The 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod season began with 61 sensational opera singers vying for the winning title of its historic Opera Scholarship, which has been producing fine classical singers for the last 83 years.

With the competition well underway, 8 talented Finalists were selected on Sunday, June 12, at the Shore School Smith Auditorium.

During the two nights (Quarter-Finals on June 11 and Semi-Finals on June 12), judges Margaret Baker-Genovesi (opera singer), Debora Humble (mezzo-soprano) and Tahu Matheson (conductor and accompanist) had the seemingly impossible task of selecting the singers to take to the stage one last time during the Finals on July 24.

The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Final will be held at The Concourse Concert Hall on Sunday, July 24 from 5pm. Competitors will have to perform two arias during the finals: one with their chosen accompanist on piano and one with the North Sydney Orchestra conducted by Maestro Steven Hillinger. The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship winner will take home $43,000 in prizes.

The 8 finalists are:

Daniel Macey "“ Baritone

Morgan Balfour "“ Soprano

Bronwyn Douglass "“ Mezzo-Soprano

Nicholas Tolputt "“ Countertenor

Angela Hogan "“ Mezzo-Soprano

Zoe Drummond "“ Soprano

Boyd Owen "“ Tenor

Stephanie Gibson "“ Soprano

The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Final will be at The Concourse Concert Hall on Sunday, July 24, 5pm. Tickets: Adults $40, Concession $33, Final + After Party $90.
