Salmonella Dub release Commercial Grates: 25 Years, 30 Radio Cuts & perform at Magnifika Pacifka as part of Festival 2018 for the Commonwealth Games.

On Saturday 13 January Salmonella Dub celebrated 25 years to the day since their first live show at the Westport Racecourse tearooms on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. To mark the start of this auspicious year the band have released Commercial Grates - 30 radio cuts spanning the band's first quarter century.

With Two number one albums in NZ and regular tours globally to thousands of fans, Salmonella Dub have been labelled as the rightful pioneers and originators of a unique Pacific style of dub/drum n' bass/reggae/hip hop and groove-based rock. Acts such as Fat Freddy's Drop, Shapeshifter, Cornerstone Roots, Kora, and Trinity Roots, as well as the new wave of Australian acts like Budspells, Rastawookie, King Tide, Red Eyes, and the likes, can all thank Salmonella Dub for breaking new ground, in an Australasian alternative music scene which was dominated through most of the 1990s by straight guitar rock, and electronic dance music.

The Commercial Grates double-disc CD set includes tracks which have not previously been available as digital downloads as well as two new tracks - World She Waits, featuring Nino Birch of New Zealand post-punk band Beat Rhythm Fashion and Searching For The Sun, produced by good friend David Harrow (ex UK On-U Sound label).

The initiative behind the Commercial Grates title and concept stemmed from many within the music industry prodding the band to release a best of' compilation.

"What tracks are deemed better than others?" This was the question posed by band co-founder Andrew Penman. "Our best tracks were produced for long player albums and average 6 - 8 minutes in length. In order to cater to commercial radio, we learnt the art of cutting down the original versions to fit radio formats, hence the cheese grater in the artwork for this compile."

To compliment this collection of tracks, Salmonella Dub have remastered all their videos from the original beta masters. These are now becoming progressively available in HD format on the band's official YouTube channel.

Commercial Grates signals the beginning of a busy 25th anniversary year for Salmonella Dub, which will include a performance special performance at Magnifika Pacifka as part of Festival 2018 for the Commonwealth Games with special guests, Tiki Taane and Maori songstress Whirimako Black.
