What happens when a Buddhist makes music?

Adelaide's pianist and composer Rich Batsford has been meditating and studying the teachings and practices of Buddhism for fourteen years.

Meanwhile, after a history of music making which encompasses church choirs, a capella bands, the National Youth Choir, the chorus of a major symphony orchestra, indie guitar bands, an ex chart Beach Boys covers band, a singer/songwriter album, electronica collaborations and genre busting Omnimedia Experiences, he finally found his niche returning to the simple yet infinitely versatile and demanding challenge of solo piano music.

Realising that using skills gained at the keyboard as a child he had the power to create complex and interesting music on his own and increasingly seeing music making as an expression of his spiritual practice, Rich began composing and performing a body of work which now enables him to play full concerts of original meditative solo piano music.

With his latest single 'In Solitude' (Sonder House, US) following on from a recent re-recording of his debut album, Rich's recorded music is reaching ever wider audiences having been played on several occasions on ABC Classic FM and streamed online over a million times.
