They are part of a series of coastal photographs taken in several countries, mostly around the Pacific Rim. An 8x10 inch camera mounted on a tripod was used for each of the photographs.
"I started using a large format camera in the early eighties, as I liked the appeal of garnering so much visual information. I was influenced by American landscape photographers at the time and the slow way of working under a black cloth, browsing detail on a glass plate, suited me."
"Around 1991 I was living in the beach suburb of Coogee in Sydney and started photographing people and landscape along the coast in the area. The body of work produced was very successful and many prints are now in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW and the State Library of NSW. I think the success prompted me to make a similar body of work somewhere else."
