Lauraine Diggins Fine Art is pleased to present NORA HEYSEN and CONSTANCE STOKES: Drawings from the Estates. The exhibition features over 80 works selected from the estate of these celebrated artists.

Drawing was essential to both these artists' practice, integral to their artistic education and as an end in itself and the exhibition gives an insight into their working styles. Spanning their careers the selection of artworks includes academic life drawings; portraits of fellow artists; sensuous nudes; sensitive portraits of Pacific Islanders; and a series of genre subjects.

"Drawing was an end in itself for both Heysen and Stokes. Heysen's mid-career work includes her sensuous conté drawings of Melanesian and Polynesian peoples completed on her Pacific sojourns in the 1950s and the 1960s, while Stokes's 'drawings' with colour take drawing to an altogether different level. For each artist, drawing was a refined and much practised art form. " (Catherine Speck, 2016)

The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue - please contact us for a copy at ausart@diggins.com.au and view the exhibition on our website www.diggins.com.au
