New year, new local support for State Theatre Company South Australia

Published by: State Theatre Company South Australia | 26-Oct-2020
State Theatre Company South Australia has welcomed three corporate partners who will support its mission to create phenomenal and inclusive theatre for local audiences in 2021.
Mercedes-Benz Adelaide and Unley, Maxima Training Group and Wallmans Lawyers will join the company's partnership group for the first time next year, supporting key areas of production design and the creation of employment and training opportunities for artists, particularly for First Nations artists.

Announcing the new partnerships today, State Theatre Company South Australia Executive Director Julian Hobba said it was a strong indication that the local corporate sector recognises the creative arts sector's crucial impact on the local economy and the community.

The COVID-19 crisis has reminded us the arts are a vital means of bringing us together as a community and keeping us connected as individuals,'' Mr Hobba said.

Theatre is a unique and irreplaceable experience of coming together. At State Theatre Company South Australia our vision is the experience should be phenomenal, transformative and inclusive for the whole community. Our ability to achieve that is so much greater when a broad range of people and sectors are behind us, and that's especially true of local business.

We recognise our role as thought leaders in an increasingly smart and entrepreneurial state where creativity and innovation is paramount. And we bring to that role the art of constructing narratives and of making sure the human element of our world is always foregrounded. I really congratulate each of our new and existing loyal partners for understanding this and for valuing our contribution to a vibrant and engaged community.

The Company draws on strong and meaningful corporate and community partnerships to build, and add value to, an ample program of high-quality productions, education, regional touring and sector leadership.

Each sponsor will have a dedicated area of engagement, supporting STCSA in its mission to create transformative audience experiences while developing the work of artists.

In 2021 Mercedes-Benz Adelaide and Unley will be recognised as Season Production Design Partner. The collaboration reflects Mercedes-Benz commitment to design excellence standards and its keen interest in celebrating South Australia's creative excellence. The investment will help the company develop outstanding production designs, encompassing costumes, scenic art, lighting, sets and sound, all essential in creating an immersive theatre experience.

Maxima Training Group will be recognised as Employment & Empowerment Partner, reflecting Maxima's significant work with people with a lived experience of disability and for First Nations communities, through its Indigenous Employment Programs and Reconciliation Action Plan. Their support will foster employment and training initiatives for artists and arts workers who might otherwise struggle to get a foothold into professional theatre.

Wallmans Lawyers will be recognised as First Nations Production Supporter for STCSA's 2021 subscription season, reflecting their corporate leadership in the area of Reconciliation, through initiatives such as its Mary Buckskin Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Internship.

In 2021 the combined support of Maxima Training Group and Wallmans Lawyers will see significant training and employment opportunities provided to First Nations artists across two productions in the year-long subscription season.

These partners join an extensive group of STCSA's longstanding corporate sponsors such as Flinders University, Novatech, Adina Group and Haigh's, plus family-owned Lonsdale-based Waternish Engineering, which came on board in July.

Waternish Engineering will directly support STCSA's Resident Artists program, which fosters new work and gives a range of theatre artists experience within the company, and on State Theatre Company South Australia's productions and projects.

The full 2021 season and production program will be announced on 29 October 2020, followed by State Theatre Company South Australia's uproarious end-of-year comedy, Ripcord, from Nov 13 - Dec 5.
