Piermarq is bringing the work of Sydney-based artist Caleb Reid to Melbourne! Piemarq have received an overwhelming response to Caleb Reid's latest work following the staggering success of his first solo exhibition at Piermarq in Sydney and in anticipation of his first international solo exhibition at Johanssen Gallery in Berlin.
New Paintings by Caleb Reid is the artist’s first major solo exhibition in Melbourne, and explores the power of the human form to express complex emotions; love, hate, desire and rapture. His intimate images are suffused with glimpses from real relationships, experiences and musings on current affairs.

This body of work is an attempt to capture humanity in its barest, unfiltered form. To reclaim its beauty and give a modern take on the human form, one of art’s oldest subjects that has shaped culture for centuries.

New Paintings by Caleb Reid is a stimulating visual feast that confronts the viewer with its sensual imagery and sumptuous colour.

Caleb Reid (b. 1988) is a Sydney based artist working primarily in painting. In 2015, Reid completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, with a focus on drawing, ceramics and sculpture. Reid has held solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne and has also been involved in group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including Berlin, Germany.

Caleb Reid’s recent work is characterised by an experimentation with process and the exploration of the relationship between creative and emotional forces. Asked about his process Reid expressed; “My process is playful, it’s emotive and immediate. I understand that if I set out a few paintings tomorrow, and then complete those paintings they can never, ever be replicated. Even if I set out the same canvas the day after. They are capturing a very specific moment in time.”

Caleb Reid participated in the group exhibition Scalene at Piermarq Gallery, which was the opening show of Piermarq’s new gallery space, and formed part of Art Month Sydney and Paddington Art At Night. The Weight of Cold Meat: New Paintings by Caleb Reid was his first solo show at Piermarq and presented a diverse body of work, unified by a process of play, chance and intuition.
