In 1976 Aussie rockers AC/DC toured twice to Shepparton. Now, 40 years later the Shepparton Art Museum will salute this historic moment with a major survey show by the devout Buddhist rock 'n' roll inspired artist, Nell. From 8 October to 27 November 2016, SAM presents the first major survey exhibition of artwork by the artist know as Nell.

Nell is a multidisciplinary show that explores some of Nell's key themes and brings together significant bodies of work by the artist that showcase her diverse range of interests and media. Life, death and rebirth; sex, Zen and rock 'n' roll, play out as key themes across the artist's oeuvre in this survey exhibition. Her work often explores the tension between diametrically opposed polarities such as light and dark, silence and noise.

Nell's practice includes painting, installation, performance and video. Through these means she explores a unique cosmology of symbols such as the egg, the drip, the lightning bolt, the fly and the smiley face - enduring motifs in a quest for universal meaning. It's only two hours to Shepparton if you wanna rock 'n' roll!

Exhibition Dates:

Saturday 8 October to Sunday 27 November 2016
