Make Your Own Kind of Music - Celebrating inspirational Soul and Gospel legends
Melbourne Singers of Gospel’s 11th gala concert, on Saturday 2 December 3pm and 8pm at the magnificent Alex Theatre, St Kilda, gives you 100 voices performing much-loved music from inspirational soul and gospel legends.
Winners at Ballarat’s 125th Royal South Street Society choral contest and directed by vocal expert, Dr Darren Wicks, this accomplished choir will lift and enrich you with its passion, authentic gospel vocals, dynamic choreography and elegant presentation. Melbourne Singers of Gospel will be accompanied by the cool jazz-blues sound of Jex Saarelaht and The Soul Train band.
The choir will bring you a diverse Gospel and Soul showcase of crowd-pleasers from luminaries including Stevie Wonder, Leonard Cohen, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Mama Cass and Broadway Inspirational Voices.
Gospel and Blues music evolved from a potent mix of African spirituals, African chants, work songs, revivalist hymns, and country dance music in the Mississippi Delta - just upriver from New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz.
