Melbourne indie label Tremorverse Records unearths new single 'Stationary' from jazz funk outfit Birdsnake featuring guests POOKIE, FL-Smiley and N'Fa Jones
Freshly squeezed independent record label Tremorverse Records is thrilled to reveal the first taste of a new upcoming compilation album, with the latest Birdsnake collaborative track 'Stationary' (feat. POOKIE, FL-Smiley, N'fa Jones).
Following the announcement of a first-of-its-kind partnership with Box Hill Institute and Sing Sing East Recording Studios, Tremorverse Records was set up by Merida Sussex, musician and co-founder of successful London based label Stolen Recordings. The label was launched headfirst onto Australia's indie label scene with their genre-spanning debut release One in October 2018. The 11-track compilation album features an impressive selection of diverse acts including Hobson's Bay Coast Guard, Girl Germs, The Grogans, Dr Sinha's Jazz Lobotomy and more. Now, Tremorverse is honoured to announce the arrival of 'Stationary', the first lifted track from the label's forthcoming second comp to be released later this year.
Teaming up on a session project at Sing Sing East Studios with emerging hip-hop artists POOKIE, FL-Smiley and Cool Out Sun's N'fa Forster-Jones, six-piece outfit Birdsnake emerged from an intensive day in the studio with the effortlessly cool jam, 'Stationary'. Settled atop the act's signature jazz/funk/soul/contemporary influenced rhythms, lies the punchy opening hook of Naarm-based MC POOKIE and the smooth, nonchalant verses of rapper FL-Smiley. Alongside the seasoned swag of Aria Award-winning artist N'Fa Jones, the team-up makes for a sonic blend of R&B, hip-hop and soul. Produced by Joel Ma and Aaron Choulai and mixed by Matt Voigt and Andy Phillips, 'Stationary' is a mantric groove that delves into self-love, personal growth and spiritual guidance.
With initial input from students, alumni, friends and connections of Box Hill Institute, Tremorverse Records brings freshness and vitality to the Melbourne music scene, fostering releases from both emerging and established artists. Tremorverse works with the music students, graphic designers, fashion students and music business students of the college to bring a multidisciplinary and ground-up approach to the record label's independence. This diversity of talent and dozens of AnR scouts out and about every night means that the label is full of inspiration and collaboration year-round. With outward-looking ambition, Tremorverse is a seeding ground for artists early in their music career. Stay tuned.
