LAST PLANE TO ASSISI: FINAL SUBMISSIONS CALL FOR CHIPPENDALE NEW WORLD ART PRIZE!

Published by: Destination Chippendale | 28-Apr-2016
FINAL SUBMISSIONS CALL FOR CHIPPENDALE NEW WORLD ART PRIZE! Now boarding. We are calling the final submissions for this year's Chippendale New World Art Prize. For all artists, creative agencies and practising students - come forth with your personal interpretation of Spirit. In the new world, we invite entrants to experiment and trace spirit's shapeshifting silhouette. Spirit dwells in surging movements, marches and protests; it dredges up ideas brooding in dark corners and ushers them into the light. @chippendalecp @chippendalecreative @VividSydney @cityofsydney
It inhabits gilded temples, sacred land and ancient churches like those of Mount Subasio in Assisi, Italy.

The CNWAP prizewinner will travel from Chippendale's industrial laneways to a three-month residency in Assisi, whose skyline is cut by rising basilicas, extended along pastoral hills and lit through stained glass. Here, an old Italian world collides with a new world of innovation.

And at its heart, spirit has inspired local creatives to submit to the Chippendale New World Art Prize.

We extend our final call: You have five days to go!

Judging Panel

The 2016 judging panel features four heavyweights from the national art arena, who will commence judging immediately after submissions close next week. Our panel includes:

Pat Corrigan; renowned art collector and philanthropist. Corrigan collects sculptures, paintings, photographs and Aboriginal art for his expansive collection. He has funded scholarships for artists and musicians, as well as supported Australian galleries and museums. His businesses include Corrigan's Art Express and Better Read Than Dead, a beloved Newtown bookstore.

Janet Laurence; internationally renowned Australian artist who works in site-specific installations and environmental sculptures. Her works blend science, imagination and memory. Laurence has exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris, London and Germany to name a few. She has won Rockefeller, Churchill and Australian Council Fellowships as well as other awards.

Wayne Tunnicliffe; head curator of Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW. Tunnicliffe has curated the contemporary Australian collection at AGNSW since 2001 and has been responsible for some of the Gallery's most significant acquisitions by living artists. Some of his recent publications include The John Kaldor Family Collection, Wilderness and Contemporary: AGNSW contemporary collection.

Dr Stanley Quek; prize benefactor, former Chairman of Frasers Property Australia and current Executive Chairman of Greencliff Pty Ltd. He has overseen the repurposing of Kensington Street, Sydney's newest lifestyle destination. Stemming from a generous $100,000 donation, Quek established the CNWAP as a ten year contribution, gifted to the local arts community.
