Kudditji Kame Kngwarreye and Idris Murphy exhibition
'My Country' Kudditji Kngwarreye 128x179cm, Mitchell Fine Art
Originally a stockman and a miner, Kudditji Kngwarreye did not start painting until the 1980's. A natural colourist, Kngwarreye had an innate ability to combine colours that quite often should not work.

Utilising bold compositions, Kudditji Kngwarreye manipulated colour and form in highly emotive depictions of his ancestral homelands in Central Australia. His dynamic and contemporary artworks with saturated fields of colour have gained him international recognition and drawn comparison to the work of American abstract expressionist artist Mark Rothko.

To compliment the exhibition, Mitchell Fine Art has invited Sydney artist Idris Murphy to curate a response to Kudditji Kngwarreye paintings through his own work.

A renowned Australian artist, Idris Murphy is known for his gestural paintings that depict his intimate awareness and a passionate attachment to the Australian landscape. Idris Murphy continuously refers to inspiration drawn from Aboriginal artists and the holistic experience of the land.

This dynamic exhibition featuring two of Australia's great landscape artists is showing at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley Brisbane from June 10th.

Mitchell Fine Art is open 6 days a week; Monday to Friday 10am - 5.30pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm, with onsite parking available. The gallery is a large venue and there is ample room to view exhibitions safely and the gallery staff are practising safe social interaction.
