The interplay of water in landscape continues to inspire Judith White and her new body of work focuses on the beautiful natural environment of the south coast of New South Wales. Using her unique layering process of pigment and collage, Judith lets abstract shapes dance across the canvas surface echoing the snaking of water and sand through rocks and scrub. By abstracting the solid landscape, Judith aims to illuminate the sensory effect of these bush, beach and creek sanctuaries which team with bird call, light and peace.

For Judith White, the Australian bush is rich with inspiration, from the vertical line of the trees to the interplay of water and light. In her latest body of work, Judith focuses on the rugged beauty of the south coast of New South Wales, a craggy landscape where the bush meets the sea. Using her unique layering process of pigment and collage, Judith lets abstract shapes dance across the canvas surface echoing the snaking of water and sand through rocks and scrub. By abstracting the landscape, Judith illuminates the sensory effect of these bush, beach and creek sanctuaries which team with bird call, light and peace. Created over lockdown, Judith welcomed the retreat into the natural world. In this landscape, she explains, isolationwas not a problem.
Judith was born in Sydney and has been exhibiting for more than thirty five years in Australia and overseas. She trained at the National Art School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree through Sydney University. Judith has been awarded many prizes during her career including the Mosman Art Prize twice, the Margaret Fesq Memorial Art Prize twice, the Manly Art Prize, the Maitland Art Prize and, in 2004, the Fleurieu Peninsula McLaren Vale Prize. She has completed numerous commissions including a major public work for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Judith has collaborated with photographer Michel Brouet and musician Rachel Scott in several performance projects, culminating in The Painted Bach' performance at the City of Perth Winter Arts Festival in 2016. Judith's work is represented in public and private collections in Australia, Japan, UK and New Zealand.
