James Dodd is an Adelaide-based artist who has worked across Australia for more than a decade, exhibiting in publicly funded, artist run and commercial spaces. His interests revolve around representations of landscape generally, with a focus on urban landscapes and the ways in which people engage, creatively with these public spaces. He has a strong interest in graffiti as a creative act and often employs the use of sprayed pigment application such as airbrush, aerosol and pneumatic spray guns. Dodd has a long history of working on mural-scaled paintings within community arts projects and is keen to pursue the potential of large-scaled outcomes for this project.

James Dodd - 2016 Artist in Residence Mural

In response to the works of Fred Williams that form part of the Festival Centre's Works of Art Collection, James Dodd has created a series of new works including a large-scale mural and an exhibition A Chat With Fred in the Artspace Gallery during SALA Festival.

For his mural, James Dodd looks to the River Murray Scenes (and other land and seascapes) series of paintings by Williams, which has been on display in the Festival Theatre Foyer since 1973.
