Inventi Ensemble: The Planets
The Planets was written between 1914-1916 by British composer Gustav Holst to represent all the known planets from the solar system that can be seen from Earth at that time and their corresponding astrological character.
Pioneered by Artistic Directors Melissa Doecke and Ben Opie, Inventi Ensemble first disrupted Australian music with their inventive style in early 2014. They have since gone on to perform extensively across Australia with a strong focus on endorsing young and local talent. Internationally, they have performed at London’s South Bank with San Francisco’s Ensemble Parrallele, as well as music festivals across Europe, Abu Dhabi and the USA. Inventi Ensemble are renowned for their virtuosic playing and masterful treatment of large-scale works, and this new arrangement of The Planets is no exception. What was originally conceived for symphonic orchestra will be performed by five musicians on flute, oboe, violin, viola and cello.
