Intangible

As of 2012 records indicate there have been 786,093 refugees and humanitarian entrants settled in Australia, of these 409,244 are offshore. From July 1980 to June 2012, 54,583 onshore protection visas have been issued. This is a snap-shot of refugee resettlement in Australia since 1901. The process of resettlement can be long and difficult for many refugees who are confronted with a myriad of social and cultural stressors upon entry to Australia. Moreover, the trauma and consequent emotional instability experienced by refugees can linger for a long time. Thus, any activity that alleviates this trauma for refugee members of our community is worth examining. As is the government's support and prioritisation of these activities.
