New Ghosts Theatre Company's production, Hush, will premiere at Marrickville's Flight Path Theatre from 5th “ 14th August on. Hush cuts through our cultural narratives about motherhood and instead dives into the real fears, ugly desires, and harsh realities of young women faced with this transformation.

Nina's water has broken early. She knows it's a girl. She doesn't know if she wants it. She lies in a pool of her own amniotic fluid in Darwin hospital, alone and paralysed by indecision. Slowly losing her grip on reality, she is visited by her best friend who dreams of a different life for her, and an apparition of her mother as a young woman who will do anything to be forgiven. Is Nina too messed up to be a mother? Or is she old enough and ugly enough to see this through? And maybe that thing slithering around in her ultrasound isn't a baby at all…

Hush is Darwin sensation Ciella Williams' full-length play debut, conceptualised just days after giving birth to her own daughter. The evocative play is directed by Founder and Artistic Director of New Ghosts Theatre Company Lucy Clements (Iphigenia in Splott) and produced by Janine Lau (Yellow Face, Iphigenia in Splott). Hush showcases established and emerging performers from around Australia, including Clementine Anderson (Queensland Theatre's The Fledglings), Rachael Chisholm (Darwin Airports Browns Mart 2019 Build Up recipient), Sasha Dyer (Blue Christmas), Zoe Jensen (Sport For Jove's Three Sisters) and Stella Ye (Old Fitz's Alice in Slasherland).
