HOTA puts a call out for rock 'n' roll memorabilia for new exhibtion - Let there be rock!
For three decades from the 1970s to 1999, the Gold Coast was a hot-spot on the bucket-list of Australia’s live music touring circuit. With iconic venues like The Playroom, Bombay Rock, The Patch, Jet Club and Fisherman’s Wharf, the Coast played host to some of the hottest and most notorious international and Australian music acts; as well as some of our best local talent. From The Ramones and Cold Chisel at The Playroom, to INXS and The Go-Betweens at Bombay Rock; and Nirvana and The Violent Femmes at “Fisho’s”; this exhibition celebrates the heyday of hard-core rock and entertainment through stories, memorabilia, photos and footage.
We need you!
Let there be rock! is a currently a rock anthem in progress. The gallery team want the exhibition to come to life with photographs, playlists, posters, tickets, and more. But we need you! We would love to hear your stories and see what treasured mementos you have tucked away. Were you in a Gold Coast band and still have the drum kit, or guitar you played? Was your t-shirt signed by Kurt Cobain or Dave Grohl? Were you at the AC/DC concert at Miami High? Stashed in boxes, and hidden in garages, we hope to unearth three decades of rock souvenirs of a night out at one of the Gold Coasts’ live music venues.
If you have a story to tell and stuff to share on Gold Coast’s rock history, submit an image of your original memorabilia with your memory on the HOTA website. See the Gallery Opportunities page on the website for full details.
Let there be rock! will be on display at HOTA Gallery from 8 December 2018 to 17 February 2019.
