Running for a limited season at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran, 'Robot Song' is a powerful story for the entire family filled with joy, music, and hope.

When eleven-year-old Juniper May receives a petition signed by her entire class stating that she is the most hated person in the school her life is thrown into complete meltdown. She stops eating, refuses to return to school and her parents become increasingly desperate. Finally, after exhausting all other avenues, her parents resort to the only thing they have left - a giant singing robot.

Based on a true story, 'Robot Song' shares an honest, intensely funny and often unconventional window into Writer/Director Jolyon James' experience parenting a child on the Autism Spectrum. It asks the pertinent question; "How do we support, foster and celebrate difference in our children in the face of an increasingly rigid and homogenised world?"

'Robot Song' is jam packed with incredible elements that you often wouldn't find in a show twice its size., adds Writer Jolyon James.

It's a musical, an art show, a YouTube channel. The show is very special to me in many ways as it documents my own journey as a parent learning how to navigate new and often scary territory. More than anything though, underneath all the lights and music, jokes and technology 'Robot Song' is a show about the immense power of unconditional love.

Established in 1966, Arena Theatre Co is one of Australia's longest-running producers of theatre for young people. The longevity of the company is a testament to their ongoing investigation of the central question What is the role of performance for young people in today's world? Over fifty years of responses to this question have ranged from modest beginnings performing school holiday shows, to the current incarnation as a leader in contemporary theatre practice.

Winner of the prestigious 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Presentation for Children and Young People and two Drama Victoria Awards 'Robot Song' employs cutting edge digital technology, startling animatronics, and a beautiful original musical score. Playing for a limited return season, 'Robot Song' is a wondrous and uplifting experience for all the family, not to be missed.
