Head On(line) Photo Festival is coming soon! Head On online for a free program of exhibitions, artist talks, workshops and panel discussions.
The Head On Photo Festival is launching online on May 1st at 6pm Sydney time via live stream on our Facebook page.

From 1-17 May, Head On(line) Photo Festival will host free artists talks, conversations, panel discussions and webinars to brush up on your photography skills.

While many are in isolation, we hope this digital platform will provide people around the world with a variety of exciting artworks, images and activities to engage and interact with.

Panel Discussions:

Australian photojournalism | 6pm Sunday 3 May

Join Head On Photo Festival Director Moshe Rosenzveig OAM, journalist Alison Stieven-Taylor and some of the biggest names in contemporary Australian photojournalism. It is through the lens of these photographers that we understand and experience much of the world's events. Look back at the most critical moments throughout recent Australian history, and the images by which we remember them.

Photographing Trauma & Healing | 12pm Thursday 7 May

Traumatic histories, global pandemics, war zones and climate disasters - even when the world is not in the midst of a crisis, people are obsessed with images of trauma. Crises dominate our media and the lives of photojournalists, therefore significantly impacting our own. Join renowned photojournalists, photographers and psychologists as they unpack our obsession with images of trauma and the role of the media in presenting them.

Workshops:

Creative spark through self-assignment | 12pm Saturday 2 May

Presented by Festival partner Adobe

Discover how personal photographic projects and self-assignments can help you to become a better photographer, overcome fears, take risks, and enhance your creativity. Join Julieanne Kost, Principal Digital Imaging Evangelist for Adobe for an illuminating and refreshing conversation as she shares the techniques she uses to continue to ignite and sustain her creative spark.

Visual storytelling in portrait photography | 6pm Monday 4 May

For more than a decade photographer Oded Wagenstein has been photographing cultures around the world. He wandered with tribes in northern Siberia, made a pilgrimage with Tibetan believers, took part in the Fidel Castro's funeral procession in Cuba, but now, like most of you, he is stuck at home. Join him and dive into the fascinating world of portraiture and culture photography.

The power of personal photography | 12pm Wednesday 6 May

As a strong believer in producing personal work and expressing yourself through photography, Matt Palmer will inspire you with the power of personal photography projects and what they can achieve for you and for others.
