Born and bred in South-East Queensland, Mark Davey is a passionate and prolific artist who can be found most hours of the day working on a new creation or finding room for a recently finished piece in his stock room style home. He is the kind of artist galleries love to have in their contact list, not only is his work exciting, experimental and highly sellable, he can also fill a 50m wall space with a only a day's notice, and still have loads more artwork where that came from.

Since his first solo in 1996, Mark has shown in cafes, libraries, shops and galleries across the South-East, winning the Art From The Margins award in 2009 and the Heiser Gallery Emerging Artist award in 2012 along the way. He networks in many art groups and continuously accepts opportunities to add a splash of colour in our local communities, chances are, if you have any involvement in the local art world at all, you have probably heard of Mark or met him at some point, but did you know that he also writes poetry?

This is something that we at Gem'Appelle Designs discovered recently during a meeting with Mark, regarding the hire of our interior design showroom space. This month Mark will showcase his artwork and poetry together at the showroom, in conjunction with the launch of his first coffee table book 'Head In The Trees'. Both the book and work on display will take the audience right to the core of who Mark is, a man who takes notice of the harm that is happening in the world, but doesn't let that stop him from seeing the beauty in nature.

For Mark, expressing his thoughts with words or paint is the most productive way he has found to inhale and exhale the world around him. His poetry mostly reflects on the things that have upset him, while his artworks are inspired from what brings him joy. This wonderful contrast along with sculptures and woodworks brings something for everyone and will be on display from the 20th October for two weeks at 10 Bailey Street, West End.

An opening celebration and official book launch, with guest speaker and mentor Don Waters will take place at 4pm Saturday 22nd October, including a silent auction of a special piece that Mark has donated to raise funds for Art From The Margins. Further opportunities to meet and speak with Mark will be available during his on site live paintings sessions Sunday 23rd October and Sunday 30th October.
