Seymour Centre presents CONVERGENCE, a cross-cultural musical journey from multi-award-winning Persian-Australian tar player and composer Hamed Sadeghi on Friday 1st May 2026.

In one seamless 60-minute act, Sadeghi transforms the concert stage into a space where cultures don't just meet, they converge. Bridging musical traditions while maintaining a clear sonic intention, CONVERGENCE leads audiences through a world of contrasts, from delicate exchanges with a string trio and the purity of classical opera, to the intoxicating depths of Persian classical music.

As part of a growing generation of artists redefining what Australian Contemporary music sounds and looks like, Sadeghi’s work reflects his cultural heritage and innovative musical vision shaped by his training in Tehran as a Persian classical musician, exemplifying the power of cross-cultural musical dialogue.

CONVERGENCE is performed by Hamed Sadeghi (tar, composition), Aida Manouchehrpour (soprano), James Tarbotton (violin), Beth Condon (viola), Freya Schack-Arnott (cello) and Sohrab Kolahdooz (percussion).

CONVERGENCE is also the title of Sadeghi's new album, supported by Creative Australia and Create NSW and produced by ABC Classic. The album is an extended foray into the Western classical tradition, driven by the deep Persian roots at the heart of his music.

Set to be an intoxicating evening challenging the boundaries of genre and belonging, CONVERGENCE asks what it means to carry more than one musical tradition in one body and what becomes possible when neither is sacrificed for the other.
