These two leading arts voices will discuss what the festival of the future might look like in the wake of diminishing national cultural ambition on the part of political decision-makers.
Key questions this agenda-setting discussion will address include the role of the festival in shaping Perth's identity; the role of creative innovation in government policy across multiple portfolios; and the role of the artist in national cultural leadership.
"Ambitious investment in artistic courage is the mark of a confident government with confidence in its people," says Esther Anatolitis.
"Artists drive our national ambitions as well as nurturing our national conscience. Festivals create platforms that present the ambition of the artist at the scale of an entire city.
"Governments who lack a vision for the arts lack the confidence to entrust contemporary artists and adventurous audiences by investing in the arts as a public good. After all, this is how the Australian story is written and the Australian future is made."
