This competition is open to all members and it is obvious that seriously good art is what is produced each year. The preselection day [about a month before the exhibition officially opens] means that everyone entering the competition leaves their artwork in the hope that theirs will make it through to the final cut of chosen works. It is a day of tension awaiting the verdict “your work has been selected”. Some are not so fortunate, but this can be a time which can stimulate artistic growth in order to make the cut the following year. It can also be testimony to the high standard of art produced by the members of RAS. The title Exhibition of Excellence is aptly named. Taylor titled her artwork “A Conversation” and the oil painting is indeed a beautiful tribute to these artists.

The sponsorship for the annual competition is met with great appreciation and especially during a time of a worldwide pandemic, where businesses can be economically challenged. The Moreton Bay Regional Council unveiled the NEW Redcliffe regional Art Gallery 12 months ago, and the Exhibition of Excellence 2020 was one of the first shows to be curated there. Viewers can anticipate another great experience entering the new gallery space and witnessing the caliber of artistic talent hanging on these walls. Who will win this year? Come along and see for yourself.
