Opening 9 September at 6pm, Alternating Current Art Space is proud to announce the arrival of four new exhibitions by Jessica Ledwich, Naomi Nicholls, Kate Wallace and Melanie Joy Caple.

Commencing in Gallery One, Jessica Ledwich examines the nature of body culture in 'Unconscious Flesh. Through a series of sculptural forms, Ledwich investigates 'our conflicted relationship with the body as an object of fetishisation and repulsion,' bringing to the fore ideas that are typically suppressed or denied.

Following this, installations of paint and colored vinyl infringe upon the gallery space in 'Sheen Slip.' In her distinctive style, Naomi Nicholls navigates outside the typical parameters defined by the canvas, drawing upon 'brush strokes that require movement of the whole body.' The end result- be it on panels, the wall or floor, is evidence of this highly physical process.

Taking place in Gallery Three, Kate Wallace captures scenes of daily commute and wait through the mechanism of painting. Placing individuals in environments both known and unknown, 'In Transit' seeks to present images that recall moments of delay and progress.

Finally, Melanie Joy Caple pays homage to the natural forms of the Gippsland region in Inked. Following on from the delicately rendered drawings of native flora and fauna documented over the past three years, here the artist utilizes paint and printmaking techniques in what becomes a celebration of the physical and unpredictable qualities of medium through the act of making.

All exhibitions run from 9 September- 1 October.

Situated in the south east of Melbourne, AC is an artist run space founded to sustain and encourage artistic growth. Our vision is to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work in an environment that supports experimentation and risk, seeking to engage new and diverse audiences via a series of solo and group shows held throughout the year.

Alternating Current Art Space is located at 248 High Street in Windsor. We are open Wednesday to Friday 3-8pm and on the Weekend 11-3pm.
