This is an exhibition that celebrates the many characteristics of the flower. The image of the flower is a powerful emblem that reverberates throughout art history. From Van Gogh to Georgia O'Keefe and more recently Tim Maguire artists explore the genre of still life through flowers. From birthdays, Valentines, anniversaries and funerals, the flower is present in our everyday life.
For over 20 years Kat Jens and Marg Primmer have been capturing and interpreting this power of the flower in their arts practice.
Kat Jens since childhood has been capturing the ephemeral essences, scents, colours and textures of flowers within her drawings and paintings. She celebrates the pure beauty and sensuality of the flower in all its multitude of possibilities. Her compositions include the abundance of flowers in the garden, flowers in vases, pots, and wildflower vistas. Kat Jens has been participating, mentoring and teaching at the Tress Street Studio, Ballarat. Her paintings are held in private collections in France, England, Portugal, Canada and Australia.
Marg Primmer has also been interpreting and developing the image of the flower in her paintings for over 20 years. Marg is focused on the colour palette and the differing mood and atmosphere this brings to her compositions. Her use of acrylic medium allows for differing applications of the paint. The artist uses the versatility in the medium to respond to her compositions instinctively, whether it be in a thin wash, a thick impasto or even hand application. Marg Primmer has exhibited extensively over the years and has works held in private collections within Australia.
These two artists come together to celebrate the image of the flower, captivating their audience on their way.
