Rehearsals are well under way for Allegri Ensemble's next concert, Faire is the Heaven, a celebration of the rich tradition of the English Choral anthem from the 16th century through to the present day. It will be performed in the historic Scots Memorial Church on Saturday 12th October at 7:30pm.

The concert begins in the Tudor era, with choral favourites including Thomas Tallis’s If Ye Love Me, William Byrd’s Sing Joyfully, and the deeply moving anthem When David Heard that Absalom Was Slain by Thomas Tomkins. The renaissance of unaccompanied English church music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries is represented by Stanford’s beloved Three Latin Motets from 1905; these pave the way for later gems such as Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence (Bairstow), Harris’s sublime Faire is the Heaven and Cecilia McDowall's beautiful piece, I Know that my Redeemer Liveth (2016).

This concert is the first under our new Musical Director, Dr Jonathan Wallis, who will speak briefly during the performance.

Tickets $35/$28 (Concession) are available via the Theatre Royal Box Office, www.theatreroyal.com.au, or from 7:00pm at the door.

We warmly encourage you to attend the performance of this uplifting program.
