Represented in some of Australia's most prestigious collections, 'Night Vision' will be Gittoes first commercial exhibition in Brisbane.

For nearly 4 decades Gittoes has documented the best and worst of some of the world's most notorious human conflicts in Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Nicaragua, South Africa and Afghanistan.

"His artworks capture the atrocities and attacks on basic human rights and have typically reflected his social, political and humanitarian observations of mans treatment of his fellow man" says Mike Mitchell, Director Mitchell Fine Art. "His artworks are both confronting and thought provoking".

"Night Vision explores the ideas of why these events happen and what drives humanity to act the way it does. It explores the darker and even the supernatural elements" says Mitchell.

The body of work in this exhibition has been created over the past 30 years and concentrates on imagery relating to a series of unpublished novels and essays written by Gittoes.

In 2015 Gittoes was awarded the prestigious Sydney Peace Prize in recognition of his life's work in contributing to the peace making process.

The exhibition 'Night Vision' officially opens at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley on Friday 29th July at 6pm. Gittoes will be in attendance on opening night.

The exhibition is showing from 27th July to August 20th.

On Saturday July 30th George Gittoes will conduct an artist talk in the gallery beginning at 11am. Following this there will be a screening of his latest film 'Snow Monkey' and the launch of his new book 'Night Vision' at QAGOMA from 1.30pm. A finalist in several International Film festivals the movie offers an insight into the Taliban stronghold of Jalalabad in Afghanistan.

Gittoes will also be at the screening of his movie and available for book signing.
