Born in France, Franck Gohier has an extensive portfolio as a painter, sculptor and printmaker. His artwork is steeped in his political and social consciousness. Satirical, politically and socially motivated his work is a reflection of society and its faults, frailties and triumphs.

In the past Gohier's works have employed many aesthetics within the comic book genre to examine socio/political and interpersonal themes. Franck is fascinated by people - their aspirations, hopes, fears, and shortcomings.

In this latest body of work "Dirty Deeds" I delve into some of the slightly darker sides of humanity that piqued my interest via detective comics and Film Noir aesthetics. I am consciously aware that most comic books are marketed at young men and so I created a lot of imagery that centre around strong, empowered woman characters' says Franck.

I use nostalgic comic book imagery and vintage colour palettes to portray and hark back to attitudes or events that happened in the past. I then exhibit them in a present, contemporary context in order to express that beliefs and mindsets that transpired previously are doomed to repeat themselves in the present and the future. Why don't we learn from our mistakes?'

Dirty Deeds' is showing from Wednesday 30th May with the official opening night to be held on Friday 1st June from 6pm "“ 8pm.

Frank will be present for the opening night and also for an Artist Talk in the gallery on Saturday 2nd June from 2pm.

Mitchell Fine Art is located at 86 Arthur St, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. The gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am "“ 5.30pm and Saturdays 10am "“ 5.00pm.
