After a successful debut 2019 season, Ethnic City, a live comedy variety night showcasing the best up-and-coming performers of colour in Melbourne, is back, bigger and better at Trades Hall!

Creator and producer of Ethnic City, Brendan Wan is bringing back the acclaimed variety show to Trades Hall for one night only, in collaboration with Common Rooms - a new venture by the Melbourne Fringe team to support the independent arts.

The response to our show has been incredible! With multiple sold out shows and the extensive media coverage we received, there's clearly a strong desire from audiences to see more culturally diverse comedy acts on stage. says Mr Wan.

"With this new venue, we'll be able to attract more diverse audiences who will have the opportunity to witness ethnically diverse performers claim the stage as theirs."

It's easy to see why audiences are asking for more Ethnic City shows with its upcoming season featuring an all-star line up of acts including 2021 RAW Comedy National Finalists, He Huang, Japanese-Australian ventriloquist Showko and Australia's first All-South Asian improv ensemble, Yes Ghandi!

Sometimes when I perform, I'm unsure if I was invited because I'm the diversity act for the night or because they actually think I'm funny? This is why shows like Ethnic City are so important. There's no confusion, no need to prove ourselves - we get to do our favourite thing and everyone just gets it. says Yes Ghandi! member, Pedro Cooray.

Ethnic City features emerging performers of colour. The 90-min live variety show is held on Wednesday 18th March 7:30pm at Common Rooms - Trades Hall. Bookings highly recommended.
