DIFF is pleased to announce two high calibre films in their first program announcement.

Opening the Festival on September 19 will be Farewell my Queen: a tense and absorbing French drama that provides an insight into the final days of doomed French monarch Louis XVI (Xavier Beauvois) and his Queen, Marie- Antoinette (Diane Kruger). Told from the perspective of a servant to the Queen, it builds the tension of this moment in history and shows the opulence of Versailles Palace against the grittiness of France’s less fortunate citizens.

Another program highlight will be the NT Premiere of Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, a Turkish drama that premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival where it was a co-winner of the Grand Prix. Based on the true experience of one of the writers, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia tells the story of a group of men who search for a dead body on the harsh Anatolian steppe.

With the full program to be released shortly, now is the time for Darwin film buffs to mark 19 – 26 September in their diary now!
