Held annually in April, the popular Dandenong Ranges Open Studios celebrates the region’s rich and vibrant artistic heritage in an interactive and eclectic weekend event and group exhibition. Now in its 12th year, two new categories of artists has been added to the Open Studios program including Emerging Artists within the first five years of their practice, and a sprinkling of Odd Balls who push the boundaries of what we would usually expect from this well known event. Also included in the 36 participating studios are an exceptionally high standard of Individual Artists and Collectives.

The Open Studios weekend offers visitors the unique experience of meeting artists in their working studio environments during a single weekend each autumn. It is in these curious and inspirational environments that the artists’ creative practise truly comes to life. More than 36 local Hills artists and art collectives are involved, working across a diverse range of mediums including ceramics, textiles, painting, illustration, performance, woodwork and street art. Open Studios is one of the most anticipated events for the region’s cultural calendar, attracting almost 5,000 art minded visitors and tourists from all over Victoria. It’s a unique opportunity to have a peek inside artists’ creative practices and visit hidden studios nestled amongst the stunning forest of the Dandenong Ranges. In addition, all artists will be exhibiting new work in an accompanying exhibition at Burrinja, running from 28 March to 3 May 2015
