Crown Resorts and Packer Family Foundations support arts education in Perth schools with AWESOME Arts' Creative Challenge.
Coolbellup and Nollamara Primary Schools got the chance to see their own creative works on display at the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things last week in Perth. The Creative Challenge program took place in the schools during term 3 with the festival outcome being delivered as part of the 22nd annual AWESOME Festival from 28 Sept to 12 Oct. Students were invited to participate in the excursion program in the first week of term 4 to view their work at the festival thanks to the Crown Resorts and Packer Family Foundations.

In 2017 Perth based not-for-profit, AWESOME Arts partnered for the first time with the Crown Resorts and Packer Family Foundations to deliver the highly successful and long running arts education program Creative Challenge into a number of metropolitan schools. Throughout 2018 Creative Challenge has again be delivered across the metropolitan area for students from Nollamara Primary School in Perth's northern suburbs and Coolbellup Primary School in the City of Cockburn.
The 2018 Creative Challenge theme Different Voices' celebrates the young people living in Western Australia, asking them to explore their own voice and consider those voices around them. Each art work created is unique and inspired by the culture, experiences and aspirations of the students making it, reflecting on their sense of identity, community and place.
Artists Matt Aitken and Tess Darcey worked with students from Nollamara Primary School, while artists Nathan and Francis Hoyle worked with students from Coolbellup Primary School across 10 weekly sessions in term 3. Students were encouraged to explore the theme Different Voices and were guided through research, conceptual development and creation of individual and collaborative artworks, in a highly-tailored experience. The program is process-driven and artworks have developed into films, music, paintings, drawings, dance and performances.
Selected artworks from Nollamara and Coolbellup were showcased alongside student work from 22 regional and remote Creative Challenge schools at the AWESOME International Arts Festival For Bright Young Things at the beginning of October. Nollamara and Coolbellup students visited the festival during schools week at the start of term 4 to view their work and take part in a day full of workshops, shows and activities.
The Creative Challenge program aims to work with schools to provide a means of connecting cultures and breaking down language and social barriers. It can be a highly effective bridging tool in supporting a diverse cultural mix of students and helping them to express themselves.
