Photographic work and installation by Andrea Srisuripon.
This exhibition will explore the private and public spaces of cross-culture. Cross-culture is a cultural and social exploration of an individual with two or more cultures, merging foreign traditions and cultural values into one. This interaction between cultures and race is a subjective reading that ultimately shapes a person, their sense of belonging and citizenship to a country. Australia’s Multiculturalism has provided a space for cross-culture to proclaim its cultural diversity, renewing the scope of Australia’s visual culture by combining cultural ideologies into one environment. The diversity of cross-culture ultimately protests against the ongoing barriers of racial discrimination and segregation that prevents cross-cultural identity to have a sustainable way of life. By drawing on personal experiences, public perceptions towards foreign cultures and Multiculturalism, the exhibition will attempt to explore the positive contributions of cross- culture in Australia and what it means to be an Australian regardless of your cultural background.
